Title: New Boston Marathon Book by Arcadia Publishing Author: Staff Writer Publisher: Race Tri Date: 4/3/09
The Boston Marathon is nothing short of Epic, every mile of the course is hallowed ground. When you finish the Boston Marathon, you become a part of a rich and proud history that began in 1897.
My first Boston was the 100th Running in 1996, and I was captivated by the story of the race. One hundred years of legend, of heroes, of duels, of despair and of triumph. Thirteen years later, with the race well into its third century, the history continues to be increasingly compelling.
You'll understand why when you pick up a new book, The Boston Marathon: Images of Sports, to be released by Arcadia Publishing on April 6, 2009. It captures the race in photos from 1896 to present.
There are some essential must-read Boston books out there, including Hal Higdon's 1996 "Boston Marathon" Centennial edition and Dick Beardsley and Rob Salazar's recent "Duel in The Sun".
The new Arcadia "Boston Marathon" book adds richness and depth to the Boston Marathon bookshelf as a sort of scrapbook of 112 years of marathon memories. More than 200 images packed into a 128 page book, some photos rarely seen before. The images dominate; words and captions play a supporting role.
The pictures in this new book add to the story every Boston runner wants to know: about the history they will become a part of when they cross the line in Boylston.
When you cross the line, smile for the camera; you'll become part of the story as well.
