Professor Salim T S Al-Hassani is Emeritus Professor of Mechanical
Engineering and Professorial Fellow at the School of Languages,
Linguistics and Cultures, University of Manchester in the United
Kingdom. Since 1968, Professor Al-Hassani, has published over 200
papers in international journals and books. He has supervised 40
PhD, 50 MSc students and numerous post-doctoral Fellows from all
parts of the world. In 2009 he was awarded an honorary fellowship
of the British Science Association.
He is actively involved in philanthropy and has spent over fifty
years championing education and cross cultural dialogue. His
personal passion is the study of the contributions made by early
Muslim Civilisation in helping to create the foundations of modern
science and technology. Professor Al-Hassani is a renowned and
powerful public speaker on this subject.
In 1999, Professor Al-Hassani founded and continues to be the
Chairman of the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation
(FSTC); a not-for-profit academic organisation based in the United
Kingdom that is supported by a large global network of historians
of science. He is also Chairman of the global block buster
initiative known as '1001 Inventions' - a highly successful public
engagement project with touring interactive science exhibitions,
films, books and educational products.
