About the Author

Elizabeth Rieger is a Senior Lecturer, Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Program Director in the Department of Psychology at the Australian National University. In her research and clinical work she specialises in eating disorders and obesity. The instrument on motivation to change in anorexia nervosa that she developed as part of her doctoral research (the Anorexia Nervosa Stages of Change Questionnaire) has been translated into six languages and is widely utilised by researchers and clinicians in North America and Europe. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for Eating and Weight Disorders (University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University), where she was trained in interpersonal psychotherapy. She is a member of the Eating Disorders Research Society and is currently the chief investigator for a study funded by the NHMRC evaluating the effectiveness of motivational enhancement therapy for obese adults. Elizabeth has more than 15 years' experience as a Clinical Psychologist. Her clinical experience includes treating adults with eating disorders, medical patients with accompanying psychological problems and obese children and adults in public and private hospitals, university clinics and private practice. She has taught clinical skills to general practitioners, nurses, clinical psychologists, medical students and clinical psychology students.
