Miriam Lo's work provides a new voice in Australian poetry, that of
an Asian-Australian woman, with a woman's sensitivity towards
family and the relations between women down the generations. Lo
explores these relationships, which run across different cultures,
and their forms of giving, with subtlety and superb imagery-in this
way finding her own identity and a new element in the identity of
contemporary Australia as a whole.---Dennis Haskell
Like the "slow white weeping of trees" Miriam Lo's poems move with
sliding grace, a natural fluidity that is at once organic and
artful. These poems tell the stories of two women, from two wildly
different worlds, whose histories and genes coalesce in the body of
the author, as she stands at the far reaches of her family tree and
looks back with wisdom, courage, and always with
tenderness.---Bronwyn Lea
