John Marx, CPP John Marx was a Police Officer for twenty-three years and served as a Hostage Negotiator for nineteen of those years. He worked in both a sheriff's office and a municipal police department. He has served as a patrol officer, media liaison officer, crime prevention officer and burglary detective. He was also the administrator of his city's Community Policing project which they called Community Oriented Governance because it involved over 70 city employee volunteers from all city departments serving as neighborhood team leaders and team members. John retired from law enforcement in 2002. When one of his friends, also a former police officer, committed suicide at age 38, John began researching the problems that trauma and negative stress create for police officers. In 2008 John founded The Law Enforcement Survival Institute (LESI) and began writing on CopsAlive.com. The mission of both LESI and CopsAlive is to save the lives of the people who save lives! John holds a lifetime Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification from the American Society For Industrial Security. The Law Enforcement Survival Institute gathers information, strategies and tools to help law enforcement professionals plan for happy, healthy and successful careers, relationships and lives and distributes that information through it's training programs and on www.CopsAlive.com. As well as working with law enforcement agencies John also works as a private consultant and has provided training in the leadership development programs of several Fortune 100 corporations.
