About the Author

Adrian Fortescue (d. 1923), priest, polyglot and renowned scholar, wrote the first edition of The Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described during the First World War and later revised it for a second edition. The rubricist Canon J.B. O’Connell (d. 1977), carefully oversaw the production of the third to the twelfth editions, up to the eve of the Second Vatican Council. Dom Alcuin Reid is a monk of the Monastère Saint-Benoît in the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, France, and a renowned liturgical scholar whose seminal work The Organic Development of the Liturgy was commended by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. He has edited the last three editions of this classical guide to the usus antiquior of the Roman rite.
