Michael Waterhouse is the grandson of the 9th Duke, and the author of Edwardian Requiem - A Life of Sir Edward Grey, Th e Cottage Book - Country Diary of Edwardian Statesman and The State of England's Birds. Karen Wiseman was head of education at Blenheim Palace and is a leading reseacher and archivist on the Malborough family and Blenheim.
'The authors present a rounded and understanding picture based on personal papers, photographs and the Blenheim archives. Dealing sensitively and fairly with both the Duke's marriages, they explain how he sacrificed his happiness in marrying the Vanderbilt millions in order to save Blenheim, a destiny impressed on him from early childhood, as the only way of reviving a near bankrupt family and estate. The book is also good on public life... a fascinating book, well researched and well written' Country Life
