"An original feat of the imagination. It purifies through love for
the human being."
--Bernard Malamud "Unique, wild, funny. It still haunts me.
--New York Times "A timeless profundity about it. The resonances

stylistic intrusions and an almost hysterical inventiveness."
--The Village Voice
