Dr Nikos Kikonas was born at Gerakari in the Amari district of Rethymnon, one of the main centres of Resistance, where his father played a leading role. Although a youth at this time he was aware of, and took part in local Resistance activities, and met some of the British Officers concerned. When the Germans sought to arrest his family, he was captured, but escaped. He studied Medicine aster the war, and is today one of the leading physicians in Crete.
