Joe Abbott's essays and stories have appeared in literary and academic publications. He teaches language arts at Butte College in Northern California, where his office overlooks a complex of Pleistocene lava domes considered the world's smallest mountain range. He has been a ship's mate and has worked for the Humboldt/Del Norte County Public Health Department and Public Guardian's Office, the Northcoast Environimental Center and the Ano Nuevo Interpretive Association. He once wrestled lumber in redwood mills and farmed in Northern California's 'emerald triangle', where income is not of a taxable variety. He has a BA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and an MA from University of California at Davis. His wife is a physician; they have two sons.
