Reviews

"An inspiring, multifaceted account, Anthony's book offers fascinating insights into the lives of wild elephants in the broader context of Zulu culture in post-Apartheid South Africa." (Publishers Weekly)"

In a fascinating, heart-warming story of a herd of wild elephants on Anthony's Thula Thula, Zululand, game reserve, the authors, South African conservationist Anthony (Babylon's Ark: The Incredible Wartime Rescue of the Baghdad Zoo) and Spence (The Apocalypse Chase) illustrate not only the pachyderm's intelligence, bravery, loyalty, and independence but also Anthony's life on the preserve with its attendant challenges, lessons, frights, thrills, and surprises. Multiple award winner (Audie and Earphones, among others) Simon Vance's smooth reading and slight British accent brings to life an incredible story of one man's life with wild elephants, making it a more lively presentation than the print book. verdict Recommended for those interested in wildlife, conservation, and biographies. ["Despite Anthony's awards and recognition for his conservation efforts, and despite the journalist coauthor, this book falls short in terms of holding reader interest," concurred the review of the Thomas Dunne: St. Martin's hc, LJ 11/1/09.-Ed.]-Laurie Selwyn, formerly Grayson Cty.
