This is a beginning reader for Portuguese. It is not a novel, and if you are trying to learn another language this is the type of book you need. It repeats simple phrases that you should already know and adds words. You will be encouraged at how much you do know, and challenged about how much you still need to learn. Every chapter has all of the new words at the beginning of the chapter, then a series of short paragraphs, and then the translations of the paragraphs (numbered) at the end of the chapter.I appreciate the Portuguese and English columns side-by-side. My only complaint is this book is Portuguese Portuguese, not Brazilian. That is not a huge problem, but I have learnt a few differences, such as Brazilians having fazendas but Portuguese having quintas.I've only just started using this book but so far am finding it really useful. I've been using Earworms Portuguese and Michele Thomas method Portuguese which are both fantastic but it struck me that I need to get familiar with the written language. This is great to do in little chunks as obviously it's hard to make such simple sentences exciting but it really gets you thinking in the language.
