Reviews

"This gentle tale of change is also a love letter to a beloved place. With recipes, too. Although instead of making my own bread, I'd rather move to Madame Reynard's delightful neighborhood, greet gossipy neighbors and fractious dogs, and walk to either of the competing boulangeries for a fresh baguette." ─Debbie Moose, award-winning food essayist and North Carolina author of six cook-books including Southern Holidays: A Savor the South Cookbook, published by University of North Carolina Press. "As a young student, I spent six enchanting months in Provence. Carrie Jane Knowles's novella, A GARDEN WALL IN PROVENCE, brought this experience back to me in sumptuous detail: the eccen-tric neighbors, the delights of the boulangeries, dogs, santons and the fresh, freezing Mistral blowing through it all . To read this tale is to travel, to walk the streets of wonderful Avi-gnon. Tout fait charmant!" ─Lynn York, author of The Sweet Life and The Stainless Piano Teacher. "At first it seems that Madame Renaud and her daughter Monique lead a rather placid life on their little street, the Impasse de l'Alliance. They and their neighbors spend their days debating which boulanger sells the best croissants and brioche, whether or not Mme. Pecaut's dog Charme can be convinced not to bark so much, and how many people to invite to Monique's 30th birth-day party. Then the mistral blows through town, bringing a change in the weather, and with it new lives and new loves. Carrie Knowles' new novella is a delight to read." ─Sarah Shaber, author of the Louise Pearlie Mystery Series.
