Peter Hillary is one of the most famous explorer-adventurers in the world. In 1990, he and his father became the first father and son team to climb Mount Everest, and feat he repeated in May 2002. He has travelled to both Poles, jetboated up the Ganges River, and completed the first high- altitude traverse of the Himalayas. He lives in Auckland, New Zealand, with his wife and four children. John Elder is a senior writer for The Sunday Age newspaper in Melbourne, renowned for writing about the more desperate side of the human experience. In 1986, as a crew member of the In The Footsteps of Scott Antarctic expedition, he stood on the pack ice and watched his ship Southern Quest sink to the bottom of the Ross Sea. He is married, and has two daughters.
