About the Author

Bert Seelman grew up on a farm in upstate New York where country life gave him a "frame of reference" for natural remedies and their potency for the rest of his life. He observed his father working with animals when they were sick, had a disease, or an injury. His father "cured them" with herbs, which were "natural sources of medicines." At the age of 14 Bert was diagnosed with a heart condition and was told a series of operations were needed, one using a pig's valve as a replacement for his heart. Not about to allow anyone to put a pig's valve in his heart, he started searching for people who knew about herbs and other so-called natural remedies. It was during this search Bert was developing his own exercise and diet plans while others seeing his results started to ask for his advice. While working at a health club in Tucson, AZ while working with a professional athlete, Bert was introduced to "Nautilus" exercise equipment and it's methodology. Bert went to the Nautilus Center and incorporated methods he learned there into his exercise programs. It was then Bert clearly saw exercise as "not a benefit but a stress." Exercise was a stimulus, a trigger to "hopefully" bring about a positive end result. He saw "nutrition and rest as the critical elements to produce results" in the fitness equation. While most were studying the "stress of exercise," he was studying "how to make the body respond or recover faster," to produce faster results! By the 1980s he was being sought out as a consultant to health clubs, and creating programs. Bert had won multiple bodybuilding contests, all with less than 20 to 30 minutes of exercise, three times a week. He developed various fact based approaches with the use of food, supplements and training techniques, that produced fast measurable and repeatable results. Bert has used one statement throughout his years of working in this field: "Do it once, do it right, and learn it for life." During Bert's career he has been a speaker, published writer, consultant, health advocate and was chief advisor for Precision Shooting Equipment Pro-Staff which is one of the world's largest archery companies. He was mentioned in the first article to use the term "personal trainer" in the "National Fitness Trade Journal" in 1987. (Has Lou Ferigno on the cover.) He has trained people in Tucson, and across the globe, as well as athletes in the MLB, NBA, NFL, NFR and Olympians. He currently resides in Arizona.
