About the Author

Umberto Pappalardo is currently Professor of Classic Archaeology and Pompeiian Antiquity at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University in Naples. He was Inspector of Pompeii and Director of Excavations at Herculaneum. He was Professor of Classic Archaelogy at the Universities of Basilea, Tubingen, Freiburg i.B. and Tokyo. He was Professor of Archaelogy at the Universities of Fribourg in Switzerland and Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo, Cordoba and Buenos Aires.
