Ole Crumlin-Pedersen († 2011) spent the greater part of his life in charge of Denmark’s maritime heritage as a curator of maritime archaeology and ships at the Danish National Museum (1962-2003). In 1993, a major ten-year grant from The Danish National Research Foundation enabled Crumlin-Pedersen to expand the Roskilde institutions into an international research centre, at which maritime archaeology could be studied in its broader archaeological and historical context. Athena Trakadas is a curator at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark, and co-editor of the Journal of Maritime Archaeology. She is a commercial diver and holds BAs in Classics and Anthropology, a MA in Nautical Archaeology, a Cand.Mag. in Roman Archaeology, and a PhD in maritime archaeology.
