From 1986 to 1993, Pat was art critic (and senior art critic) for The Press, art commentator for Art New Zealand and Preview, journal of the Canterbury Society of Arts, CSA, now the Centre of Contemporary Art, CoCA, Christchurch. She is author of W. A. Sutton, painter published in 1994 by Hazard Press, and essay writer for the catalogue which accompanied W. A. Sutton. A Retrospective, an inaugural exhibition at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu in 2003. In 2008 she wrote Bill's Story. A portrait of W. A. Sutton, which made much use of, amongst other sources, Sutton's extensive archival material, held in many boxes, in the Christchurch Art Gallery's Library.
