About the Author

Denise has been practicing nursing since 1978 and teaching nursing since 1980. She taught in the Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) baccalaureate nursing program until 1995, when she began teaching in the Family Nurse Practitioner sequence of the MCN graduate program. Denise is nationally certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as both a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP). She completed the Post-Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She also received her doctorate in Educational Administration and Foundations, Higher Education, from Illinois State University. Denises master's degree is in Adult Health Nursing from the University of Illinois-Chicago and her bachelor of science in nursing degree is from Illinois Wesleyan University. Denises primary clinical area as a registered nurse was medical-surgical nursing, with her favorite specialty area being orthopaedics. Since becoming a family nurse practitioner, she has maintained a clinical practice with a ten-physician internal medicine group. Denise sees clients age 13 and above, although most are adult and elderly clients. Denise feels it is very important to maintain her clinical practice in order to provide her students with up-to-date information regarding primary care.

Reviews

"Unique features of this book include the emphasis on evidence for practice, interpretation of abnormal results, the influencing factors that might skew the results, and nursing interventions pre- and post-test. The appendixes are a wonderful addition, setting it apart from other books. Here the reader will find common tests; physiology of the endocrine system and how its function may influence test results; patient safety and how to communicate test results; health professional safety while conducting or assisting with tests; and evidence-based practice and how that process is applied in clinical situations...This book is a nice addition and fresh look at an old subject."--Doody's Review Service Doody's 20081105
