About the Author

Ginger is an integrative physical therapist (PT), athletic trainer (ATC), educator, and founder of Professional Yoga Therapy Studies. She earned her Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completing studies in the School of Medicine and School of Public Health. Ms. Garner began work in the field of integrative therapies in 1995, after becoming licensed in sports medicine. She developed Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) as a postgraduate, interdisciplinary certification over a 20 year span, and has been teaching the curriculum for over 10 years. Ginger is a pro bono consultant with universities in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and Canada, where MTY is being used as part of the master's and doctoral physical therapy curriculum. The program, which provides educational competencies for using yoga in interdisciplinary medical fields, is a first of its kind in the US. Ginger's clinical specialties include public health education, orthopaedics, pain management, and maternal health. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ginger considers her most important work to be patient advocacy, where through multimedia platforms she works to increase awareness of, and eliminate barriers to, receiving holistic and integrative health care.
