Miumi-U is one of the most creative and dramatic young rope artists emerging from the classical traditions of Japanese shibari. Her training began in Tokyo when she became a member of the Ichinawa-kai where she studied rope intensively under Shishi-waka and Kurage Umitsuki for a year and a half. This required eight hours of instruction and practice each day which drew on the long historical traditions of rope bondage in Japan. Following this, she took advanced classes as a student of Hajime Kinoko for a year.
Performances given by Miumi-U are lively and creative with touches of humour interlaced with the telling of a story using costumes, ropes, burning tapers other items; and like stories, there is usually a twist in the tale at the end.
