Ping Liu was born Liaoning Province, China, in 1955. When she was
15, she was sent to work in a phosphate mine where she learned
chemical engineering, explosives and demolition, and electrical
engineering. She was also a Red Guard and performed in the Mao
Zedong Performing Arts Propaganda Team (the same troupe made famous
in the book and movie "Mao's Last Dancer." She graduated from
college and became a teacher as well as an interpreter for China's
Ministry of Chemical Engineering.
When she was in her 30s, she joined one of China's largest travel
and tourism companies and was heavily involved in professional and
cultural exchanges with many foreign companies.
When China entered the WTO in 2001, she decided to build her own
business. Today she is one of the most successful female
entrepreneurs in China. She is CEO of the China Star Group, one of
China's most successful professional conference organization (PCO)
companies with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
