About the Author

Jessica Elder, a writer and social worker, has extensive training in infant and child mental health, child development, and parent-child relationships. Jessica's writing is inspired by her own parenting experiences and by years of professional experience supporting children and families through life challenges and transitions. Jessica breastfed three babies and fully weaned them when they were young toddlers. While nursing her second newborn in 2016, she was inspired to write My Milk Will Go, Our Love Will Grow, hoping it would help toddlers acknowledge their feelings around weaning and understand that their needs will still be met. Jessica earned a master's degree in social work at Columbia University and received postgraduate training at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. She developed her career in New York City as a clinical social worker and program developer. Jessica now lives in Arizona with her husband, children, and rescue dog. She continues to practice social work and also enjoys writing. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). For more information visit www.jessicaelder.com and follow @jessicaelderauthor on Facebook and Instagram. Sheila Fein is an illustrator and a fine artist. She enjoys combining the two disciplines to illustrate children's books. Sheila grew up on Long Island and earned her bachelor's degree in graphic design and fine art at Buffalo State College. When she is not painting or illustrating, she runs drawing workshops called Imaginings Sketch/People Sketchers for artists to study the human figure. She also teaches privately, helping others to express their own style and release their imaginations. Sheila lives in the Santa Monica Mountains of California with her husband and their chocolate lab, Charlie Sage. She enjoys having shows of her work and is always creating something. Sheila is a PAL (published and listed) member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Please visit www.sheilafein.com to see her fine art work. "Weaning is a time filled with mixed emotions for both mother and child. This book beautifully articulates these feelings through poetry and illustration. It helps the child understand what weaning means and how the mother-child bond continues, even when breastfeeding is no longer a part of their routine. The perfect read for the weaning child." -"The Milk Meg," Meg Nagle, IBCLC "Weaning shouldn't be rushed, and it should be handled gently and with respect for the child's feelings. Jessica Elder understands how important this process is, and provides parents with a lovely tool to open discussion about how weaning will happen - and how life will happily continue afterward. She identifies some of the emotions the child may be feeling and opens a door for questions and communication." -Elizabeth Pantley, mother of four and author of The No-Cry Sleep Solution and the No-Cry Solution book series "Weaning a toddler can be an emotional transition for both mother and toddler. This wonderful book for parents and their toddlers addresses the psychological aspects of weaning in an age appropriate, fun way, with beautiful words and colorful illustrations. It helps validate the toddler's feelings and is a must read for mothers and toddlers going through the weaning process, and entering a new stage in their relationship." -Dr. Heidi Horsley, Psychologist, Child Development Adjunct Professor, Columbia University, Executive Director of the Open to Hope Foundation "4 out of 4 stars! In addition to the heart-warming message of the book, the artwork is amazing. Kids would be drawn to the pictures with interest, and there are lots of things to talk about when sharing the book with children. Also, at the end of the book there are suggestions for how to use this book, including little tips and tricks that are useful for sharing any book with a child." -Online Book Club "Breastfeeding mothers from generations past and those who recently experienced the weaning process with their own babies will wish they had had a book like this to guide them in explaining to and supporting their children through this often-delicate process. Thus, Elder's book is not only timely but also an essential read for today's young mothers." - Laurie A. Burke, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist
