James O'Neill is an alumnus of the QUB History department. He completed a two year post-doctorate fellowship in the School of History, University College Cork, before returning to Belfast where he now works as a heritage consultant, specializing in battlefield/conflict archaeology.
"Archaeologist O'Neill has written a highly informative study of the earl of Tyrone's long war to free Gallic Ireland from English rule. This is the first full treatment of the entire course of the war that brought English rule in Ireland to the point of collapse by 1598. Extensively documented with a useful glossary of military terms. Recommended." --Choice, Vol. 55, No. 7, March 2018
