Linda Proud was born in Hertfordshire in 1949 and worked for most of her career as a picture researcher in publishing. She is the author of A Tabernacle for the Sun, Consider England, Angels, Icons - a Sacred Art, 2000 years of Christianity and Knights of the Grail. Besides writing she works at home in Oxford with her husband, David Smith, in publishing services and teaches Creative Writing to American undergraduates at Oxford University.
Where scholarship is profound, and intuitive sympathy has brought historical figures to life in such a way that their every act and word rings true, the work is no longer strictly fiction. Linda Proud opens a window on the Renaissance in all its frequently tempestuous and passionate reality. Extract from review by Pamela Tudor Craig in Convivium, November 2004.
