Geoffrey Hayes, the recipient of the ALA's prestigious Theodor
Seuss Geisel Award, has written and illustrated more than forty
children's books, including the extremely popular series of early
readers Otto and Uncle Tooth. But Geoffrey's most beloved creations
are the Benny and Penny TOON Books and the Patrick stories.
While there's some of Patrick in all of us, we can see a great deal
of Geoffrey in him. Geoffrey says: "When I was six or seven, pea
really did seem like 'little green balls of mushy poison.' Oddly
enough, peas are now one of my favorite vegetables. Chilled pea
soup with mintthat's simply delicious!"
Another charmer from the reliable Hayes; newly independent readers
won’t need any condiments to gobble it down.
—Kirkus Reviews
Geoffrey Hayes's charming picture books make a smooth transition to
a single-volume graphic novel collection for beginning readers.
From mealtime to chores, from bathtime to bedtime, Hayes's quartet
of tales captures the young cub's boundless energy and personality.
... Here's hoping for many more adventures starring Patrick and his
loving family.
—Shelf Awareness for Readers
Readers’ parents will also see themselves in Patrick’s parents. The
detailed illustrations are definitely the highlight. They
sequentially capture the emotion to such a degree that words are
simply a nice addition. This is a book that will appeal to
reluctant readers through humor and illustrations as well as
through word repetition and basic vocabulary.
