About the Author

Gillian Hutchinson is Curator Emerita at the National Maritime Museum Greenwich, where she was Curator of Archaeology and Curator of the History of Cartography from 1980 to 2015. The National Maritime Museum is the world’s largest maritime museum, telling stories of Britain’s epic relationship with the sea – global exploration, cultural exchange and human endurance.
