Reviews

'Historical fiction at its best.' Historical Novels Society. 'A truly wonderful book that operates on so many levels: a coming-of-age story; a fascinating historical novel; a spiritual odyssey; a thriller, even. What really lifts this book above others is the comination of wonderfully-described physical reality and the spiritual life gradually opening up for and perceived by Tommaso. There is much wisdom in this book.' Tim Pears. 'The research in art, history and philosophy is breathtakingly thorough.' Ruth Padel. 'A historical novelist of genius.' Dr Pamela Tudor-Craig (Lady Wedgwood).
