About the Author

Miriam Estensen has a sea-faring heritage, the legacy of forebears in Sweden and Spain's Basque country. She is author of Discovery: the quest for the Great South Land, The Life of Matthew Flinders and most recently The Life of George Bass: surgeon and sailor of the Enlightenment all published to critical acclaim. She lives with her husband, a retired sea captain, on Australia's Gold Coast.
