Mark wrote his first stories at age eight but it wasn't until his
twenties that he recognised his love of words through song writing.
He sang in a band, worked in the music industry, and ran a graphic
design business with Rowan before they moved to the sticks to focus
on creating picture books together.
Before picking up the pencils Rowan worked as a freelance
graphic designer and ran her own design business. She arranged
to meet Mark after reading a draft of one of his stories
at a friend's house. What started out as a meeting ended up a
date and they have been together ever since.
When drawing her pictures Rowan likes to use as few lines as
necessary, contributing to a unique style that is loved by
young and old for its quirky simplicity as much as its
humour. Rowan's titles include the laugh-out-loud
funny Baa Baa Smart Sheep (Children's Choice award
- New Zealand Post Book Awards), I Love
Lemonade, and Two Little Bugs (Book of the
Year ' New Zealand Book Design Awards / 'White Raven'
award - International Youth Library, Germany.)
