Reviews

This is a well written, intelligent, and gritty sequel to "Killed in Escrow." Although not absolutely necessary I do recommend that you read the first in this mystery series. You will be glad you did. In it we are introduced to Lauren Vellequette, a successful but bored real estate agent who has suffered a mid-life crisis of sorts and becomes a private investigator. In this the second novel, we learn that she has no shortage of work and in fact two of her most recent cases intersect. Although one suspected the culprit towards the end - the ending was interesting and a bit of a surprise. The main character and supporting cast are well written, multi-dimensional and essential to the storyline. Jordan also takes the time to educate on homeless and other related social issues without preaching and seamlessly weaves it into the plot. Sometimes a sequel doesn't meet one's expectations but I would have to say that I preferred this installment as we see the further development of the main character with all her flaws and insecurities. The dark humour is particularly appealing to me and brought to mind much of what I enjoyed in Jordan's previous series the Kristin Ashe Mystery Series (which I also highly recommend). There was obviously a meticulous attention to detail - I learned much about Denver, real estate and arson without my head exploding plus, an added bonus - I did not notice any typos or editing issues. The cover is outstanding and the fact that the author felt no need to introduce gratuitous sex that did not advance the plot was refreshing. I would certainly read more from this author and in fact look forward to future releases. I gave this 5 stars given amazon's scale "I love it" because a 4 star "I like it" wouldn't be strong enough - likely a 4.5. -- Cooper on Amazon
