Promotional Information

Mortensen both develops cutting-edge theories of job search and tests them with empirical evidence from an incredible new data set. The integration of theory and data makes this book a must-read for anyone interested in labor economics. -- Robert Shimer, Department of Economics, University of Chicago Mortensen's book is a superb treatment of a very old question: Why are similar workers not paid the same? Readers are introduced to the empirical evidence on wage dispersion, and then shown how the tools of modern search theory can be used to fashion a compelling answer. I predict that this short book will be adopted at all major Ph.D. programs in Economics. -- George R. Neumann, University of Iowa
