About the Author

ALAN CLAYSON is a writer, broadcaster and musician specialising in music from the 1960's. He's been described by Q magazine as 'The AJP Taylor of pop' who also commented, 'his knowledge of the period is unparalleled'. He wrote the screenplay for the successful British film 'Backbeat', which covered the Beatles days in Hamburg. Additionally he has written scores of music based biographies including works on Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, The Troggs, The Yardbirds and his lifelong friend the late Screaming Lord Sutch. He regularly contributes to Mojo, Record Collector, Folk Roots, The Independent, The Times and numerous other periodicals. In the late 70's he fronted the legendary punk icons 'Clayson and The Argonauts', and still performs regularly. He retains his position as one of the great British eccentrics. SPENCER LEIGH was born, bred and still lives in Liverpool. He has the city in his blood and it shows. A writer and broadcaster for more years than he'd care to remember, he has presented the hugely successful 'On The Beat' radio show on BBC Radio Merseyside for more than two decades and is a respected world authority on all things Beatles. Having written books on Paul Simon, Elvis, Buddy Holly and several on The Beatles, his most recent work 'Drummed Out' concerns itself with the sacking of Pete Best. He regularly contributes to Mojo, Goldmine, and Radio Times and writes popular music obituaries for The Independent. He has an opinion on everything but when it comes to The Beatles he's normally right.
