Reviews

?The work is divided into six sections, beginning with two for general histories and research aids, then turning to strategy, events, or other action accounts. Among the topics chosen for inclusion in the European theater are the operational standbys--the contest for North Africa, the campaign in Northwest Europe, the battle of the Atlantic, and even the Russian campaign. New and exciting in this work is its almost equal attention in the three remaining sections to resistance, POWs, spies, and wars behind the lines (which includes a brief look at the Holocaust); a look at war and society, which is devoted to economic mobilization, social change, women, refugees, and associated issues; and a review of the colonial heritage, which relates to the war in South America, the Mideast, the British Commonwealth, and sub-Saharan Africa.... The essays are well-written, the bibliographies full, and the approach comprehensive. Recommended for all academic reference collections.?-Choice

?This exceptional research work will interest experts of the various topics as well as scholars and college teachers who want to know the historiography of the many war related topics.?-Cryptologia
