Performer Notes
  • With so much wrong with the world circa the early 21st century, the anger and message of hardcore has perhaps never rung more true. And there are quite a few chaps that feel the same way, as evidenced by the emergence of new bands that specialize in vintage hardcore sounds -- case in point, Providence, RI's Verse. Most longtime hardcore admirers may have heard it all before (shouted vocals, guitar riffs blasting away, rapid-fire drums, etc.), but the Verse gentlemen certainly pull it off well throughout their 2008 release, Aggression, as it certainly sounds like it's all coming from the heart, and not merely a pose. While the genre has mutated into numerous subgenres over the years, straight-ahead, hard-hitting hardcore is still very much alive and well, as evidenced throughout Aggression. ~ Greg Prato
Professional Reviews
Alternative Press (p.166) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Vocalist Sean Murphy delivers his acerbic political vitriol with plenty of gusto, equal parts Zack De La Rocha and Rob Fish....A dynamic and inspired third record."

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.52) - "[L]yrically, this is intelligent when dealing with politics and eloquent when dealing with more personal subjects. Compelling and inspirational, from start to finish."
