  • Luis Miguel knows how to make his every sojourn into the minefields of romance a fresh, moving experience. AMARTE ES UN PLACER's cover photo depicts Miguel back in his typical black suit and tie flashing his Kennedy-esque looks--it's another collection of uptempo lounge tunes and lush ballads that fill arenas in the U.S. and Latin America. He seems to do his best work with the slow stuff--in tunes like "Soy Yo," and "O Tu O Ninguna," his consistent tenor rolls into subtle climaxes, coaxing the crescendo out of the lyrics.
  • On the Vegas-style, up-tempo jazz-pop tunes like "Quiero," and "Dimelo un Beso," he's moody and wistful. "Tu Solo Tu," is an uplifting track that will remind listeners of Kool and the Gang's "Get Down on It." The main reason to buy his records is for tunes like "Dormir Contigo," where the words, the strings, and the syrupy sentimentalism come together and Miguel invokes all the drama for which his persona was so carefully constructed.
