  • After a short-lived retirement, KMFDM came roaring back with ATTAK, issued three years after what was supposed to be their final album, 1999's ADIOS. Founder Sascha Konietzko and company prove that the mini- break didn't dull their penchant for industrial metal with a dance edge. Some of the selections prove to be more dance-oriented than metallic (such as "Dirty") or slower in tempo ("Save Me"), but there are plenty of hard-stomping, electroid rockers in the mix ("Sturm & Drang" and "Risen" will keep the metalhead portion of their large fanbase very happy). Also of note--with the release of ATTAK, KMFDM split from their longtime label, Wax Trax (with whom they'd recorded steadily since their inception in 1986), and set up shop with a new label, Metropolis.

Q (May 2002, p.115) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...Sonically adventurous: drum'n'bass and digital dancehall spice up the usual murderously heavy riffing..."

Alternative Press (5/02, p.88) - 7 out of 10 - "...Pulses and palpatates with a sense of urgency that proves this machine is not obsolete..."

CMJ (3/11/02, p.16) - "...the band remains a vital force in industrial dance/metal..."
