  • Brother of Chicago saxophone legend Von Freeman, guitarist George Freeman established himself as the Windy City's gift to soul jazz (as well as hard bop). Originally recorded and released in 1969, BIRTH SIGN is Freeman's debut and an unsung classic of the style. It's got the classic organ/guitar/drums lineup (brother Von's tenor is featured on four track), with plenty of hot and mellow riffs and solid cooking throughout. This SIGN reads: soulful jazz infused with a modern hard bop edge.
