In the wake of Diana Ross's solo debut album's enormous success in 1970, a follow-up was released quick on the heels of that blockbuster. Unfortunately, EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING didn't come anywhere near the popularity of its predecessor, but it's nevertheless a fine piece of work. Covers of the Beatles ("Long and Winding Road,'" "Come Together") and the Carpenters ("Close to You") demonstrate Ross's versatility, while such tracks as the gently bouncing "My Place" provide a link to the singer's Supremes past. The 2008 expanded reissue of the album sweetens the pot by adding everything from alternate versions of "Ain't No Sad Song" and "Baby It's Love" to a snazzy '80s remix of "Come Together."
