  • Detroit garage duo the Gore Gore Girls offer a more knowingly campy version of retro cool than the gin-soaked barroom-queen schtick put forward by fellow Motor City revivalists the Detroit Cobras. The Girls' sound is utterly entertaining, and comes off like the soundtrack to an ephedrine soaked go-go scene in a B horror movie. The duo are at their best when giving Leslie Gore-style pop a grimy makeover ("All Grown Up"), but they're also capable of delivering straight-up, bad-girl guitar rock ("Pleasure Unit") that's as raw and satisfying as anything to come out of Detroit in the early 2000s.
