Performer Notes
  • Performers include: Al Ferrier, Little Billy Earl, Larry Hart.
  • Culled from several vinyl albums, this brings together 22 of the best rockabilly sides from Louisiana's Goldband records onto one compact disc. Kicking off with Al Ferrier's "Let's Go Boppin' Tonight," this disc also features four more from Ferrier (including "Honey Baby" and "No, No, No"), five from Little Billy Earl (including "Couple in the Car," "I Never Had the Blues" and "Honey Baby-O"), seven from Larry Hart (including "Coffins Have No Pockets," "I'm Just a Mender" and snippets of three other tunes culled from audition demos), three from Johnny Jano ("Mabel's Gone" being a notable highlight), a pair from Bill & Carroll ("Bluff City Rock," "Hold Me Baby") and stray single entries from Jay Chevalier ("Castro reviously unissued "Standing at the Door"), Chuck Carbo ("Yes I Got You"), Calvin Spears ("Come On Home"), Gerri Hall (the previously unissued alternate take of "What I Learned About You"), Little Booker ("Teenage Rock") and Mac Rebennack doing business as Gene & Al's Spacemen ("Mercy"). A special bonus is also the inclusion of the original version of "Sea Cruise," with Huey Smith doing the vocals, and the original version of "New Orleans" by Big Boy Myles, a local hit before Gary U.S. Bonds covered it for the national market. ~ Cub Koda
