The adventurous sound of the Electric Light Orchestra draws on Beatles-like melodies, classical music, and even veers towards prog rock at times. This compilation album is full of their biggest hits.
Light Years: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra is an extensive double-disc, 32-track, U.K.-only collection that runs through all of ELO's biggest hits, plus several lesser-known singles and album tracks. While this is comparable to the American collection Strange Music, it isn't as lean and effective as that release, meandering just enough to sound a little bloated. Nevertheless, it's not a bad choice for the fan who wants a little more than the hits but not as much as the albums. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
