Performer Notes
  • Nu-metal stalwarts Linkin Park return with their fifth album, Living Things, a more personal effort than their previous releases. Teaming again with Rick Rubin, who's worked on all of their albums since Minutes to Midnight, they continue to refine their sound, bringing together all of their individual musical interests while using the songwriting instincts they've honed over the years to create something that's both new and distinctly Linkin Park. After the more experimental A Thousand Suns, it seems like the band is ready incorporate all of the lessons learned on its sonic journeys into one cohesive sound, which fans can check out on the album's first single, "Burn It Down," which was released early in 2012.
Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.102) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[W]hile they've spiffed up their sound for the dance floor, the band found some of its greatest inspiration in pop-wise hip-hop..."

Entertainment Weekly (p.69) - "[A] barrage of cyber-metal elbow jabs, with just enough fluffy new-wave padding to soften the onslaught." -- Grade: B

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.52) - "Linkin Park's fifth album continues the group's trend of using the recording studio as a cross between a sixth member and a painter's palette."

Q (Magazine) (p.103) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[T]hey've not forgotten how to deliver triumphant rock choruses....Bold stuff and proof Shinoda remains a richly talented creative force."
