LUST CORNER is a wonderful set consisting of a dozen guitar duets by three of the preeminent innovators on the instrument. Noel Akchote is heard throughout, in tandem with either Marc Ribot or Eugene Chadbourne. The set opens with a gorgeously spacious reading of Ornette Coleman's "New York," followed a bristling take on his "Street Woman," both finding Akchote teamed with Ribot. Later in the set Akchote joins Chadbourne for another Coleman pair, "Peace Warriors" and "Broken Shadows." Chadbourne also contributes one of his most touching songs of social commentary, "Dirt." In fact, it's quite a treat to hear Chadbourne, who often favors lo-fi immediacy, recorded in such high fidelity. LUST CORNER is an avant-garde guitar summit nonpareil.
