With his impassioned singing and honest songwriting, Alejandro Escovedo is one of the finest roots-rockers of the current era. On this 2001 release, he finds a sympathetic patron in Bloodshot Records, and outdoes himself with dramatic, spare arrangements and the occasional garage rave-up.
