The first of multiple Barbara volumes in Universal's eponymous series of best-ofs released in the early '00s, Barbara, Vol. 1 compiles many of the French vocalist's most popular songs from the '60s: "Gottingen," "A Mourir Pour Mourir," "Pierre," "Si la Photo Est Bonne," "Mon Enfance," and more. In addition to the songs from the '60s, there are also two Barbara songs from the '70s -- "L'Aigle Noir" and "Marienbad" -- and one from 1981, "Les Insomnies." Overall, this is a well compiled and nicely packaged best-of that should function as a wonderful introduction for the uninitiated to Barbara's music. ~ Jason Birchmeier
