  • My Panamian Friend is Hamilton's finest outing in several years. Part of the reason may be its purpose, paying tribute to the great Eric Dolphy. Another plus is that seven of the nine songs are Dolphy compositions, among them "Springtime," "South Street Exit," and "Something Sweet, Something Tender." But the prime reason for this disc's success is alto saxophonist/flutist Eric Person. He plays with sensitivity and a tender yet strong, dynamic approach that proves more intriguing than his performances on his sessions as a leader. Although he's no Dolphy, Eric Person not only pays ample respects, but matures greatly as a player on this session. ~ Ron Wynn
