Performer Notes
  • Liner Note Author: Michael Heatley.
  • Steamhammer didn't gather the international fame and attention that some of the other blues-rock-based British hard rock bands of the later 1960s and early '70s did, but there's no reason they shouldn't have -- they were no worse than most and certainly better than many, and while they could play Cream-styled blues-rock by the numbers, they weren't afraid to branch out from that and eventually move in a more jazz direction. In all, they recorded four albums, putting out their last, Speech, in 1972. This two-disc set collects the best and signature tracks from those albums in one package, making it an excellent way to catch up on this interesting and often intriguing band's recorded legacy. ~ Steve Leggett
