  • THE SKA ALBUM is a best-of from a popular and long-running Venezuelan band that formed in 1985. The title is accurate enough, though a tad misleading since ska has been the prevailing genre on most of the group's records. This release compiles some of Desorden Publico's highlights from over the years--basically a primer for North American listeners. The sound is a fusion of funk-rock, reggae, traditional Latin music, and ska, delivered with infectious enthusiasm. Except for a female-sung cover of the Shocking Blue/Bananarama hit "Venus," the lyrics are in Spanish, although their political, frequently incendiary nature comes through in the delivery.
