Performer Notes
  • This classic, late-1970s album by British rocker Graham Parker features many of his finest tunes, as well as the lesser-known tracks "Soul on Ice" and "Clear Head."
  • Remastered version.
  • Personnel: Graham Parker (vocals, guitar); Brinsley Schwarz (guitar, background vocals); Martin Belmont (guitar); John Earle (saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone); John Altman (saxophone, baritone saxophone); Ray Beavis, Johnny Earl (tenor saxophone); Dick Hanson (trumpet); Chris Gower (trombone); Bob Andrews (piano, organ, keyboards, background vocals); Steve Goulding (drums, percussion, background vocals); Andrew Bodnar (drums); Darryl Lee Que (percussion).
  • Liner Note Author: Nigel Williams.
  • Recording information: Eden Studios, London, England.
  • Arranger: David Bedford.
  • Graham Parker and the Rumour's third new studio album to be released in 18 months finds the bandleader running short of top-flight material; "Thunder And Rain" and "Watch The Moon Come Down" are up to his usual standards, but songs like "The Heat In Harlem" find him dangerously out of his depth. As a result, although fiercely played, this star-crossed release (it had to be re-recorded when the first version suffered technical problems) is a cut below Parker's first two albums. ~ William Ruhlmann
Professional Reviews
Q (Summer/01, p.125) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Parker's best work. His still-bitter songs had a blossoming maturity....Well worth resurrecting."

Uncut (9/01, p.102) - 3 1/2 stars out of 5 - "...'Watch The Moon' and 'Soul On Ice' brilliantly captured the late Seventies psychic and emotional landscape..."
